Easter 2020 – What a time!

How was your Easter 2020?

Easter 2020 was a hard time. It was at the start of the COVID 19 pandemic and many people were not able to celebrate with family.

I was busy making Easter presents and then the whole world was turned upside down. One of my favourite craft projects was to make a Plush toy for a newborn baby’s 1st Easter.

I purchased the plush toy from the local Kmart store and proceeded to personalised it. Using my Cricut Maker and Design Space I found a design I liked for the My 1st Easter on the bunnies belly. The rest of the designs we a selection of texts from design space. I did the girls name on one ear and then on each foot 20 & 20 representing the year. The other ear I placed a pretty heart.

I then loaded the pen holder in my Maker with a black infusible in pen and drew the designs. Attention: Important information here remember to mirror your image! if not when you iron it on it will be back to front. Then the fun part began. With the full set of infusible ink markers, I coloured in my designs. Using a small amount of water you can create a watercolour effect.

Before applying any infusible ink, either sheets or pens/markers you need to clean the area with a lint roller to get off any residual fluff or matter.

The next step I ironed the designs onto the bunny. With the coloured side facing down I secured them with a small amount of heat resistant tape. Then placed some butcher paper over the design before heating.

Using my Easypress Mini, on the high setting I heated for 75 seconds and moved it constantly. The instructions say to do a warm peel and that’s what I did. Some others say to let it cool. I guess it’s best to be prepared as all materials can produce different results.

Conclusion:

I was very happy with the end result and so was the little girls family. I had to post this gift due to COVID lockdown. Hopefully next easter we will be able to spend time with all of our loved ones.

Kmart have a few different styles of plush toys that would be suitable for applying infusible ink to them. So not just an Easter 2020 project.

A point to remember is that to use infusible ink you must put it on a suitable surface. Fabric must have a high percentage of polyester in it or the design won’t transfer or it will wash straight off. Coasters and mugs must be made of sublimation suitable material.
